Every year something big happens in my life! In 2003, I became engaged to the most beautiful woman in the world.
Following this I rode across Australia from Perth (WA) to Hobart as part of a fundraising ride. We covered 4200kms in 6 weeks and averaged about 160kms a day.
Soon after the ride finished I moved from my home town of Crystal Brook in the mid-north of South Australia to Adelaide, to be near my fiancée who was studying at university. We were married in July of 2004.

Only 4 months into our marriage, I woke during the night with chest pains and a numb left arm (what I thought to be symptoms of a heart attack). We went to the hospital emergency department where they hooked me up to several machines. At that stage I felt fine but the machines showed that I was having a massive heart attack. They performed x-rays which showed a very large mass near the region of my heart. I was admitted to hospital that night, awaiting surgery to remove the mass within the following days (it never crossed my mind that this could be cancerous as I was always fit and healthy).

They prepared me for surgery and we were told the surgery would be relatively simple. However, after 3 hours in the waiting room my wife was rather anxious. The surgeon said he’d only been able to take a biopsy as the mass was not completely contained and had some suspicious areas.
I was taken to the Intensive Care Unit to recover.

I was given 2 weeks to recover and wait for the results of the biopsy before my next surgery was scheduled to actually remove the mass. During this time, I caught a staph infection in my blood. This required a large dose of intravenous antibiotics and more waiting!! Finally, about 4 weeks later I was clear for surgery. They removed the large mass (the size of a small football) from my chest but the surgeon said there were still shavings stuck to the lung and heart sac. Doctors called this mass a teratoma; a form of cancer which contained hair, bone, teeth and sweat glands. There was also evidence of both benign and malignant cells. We asked the surgeon if I would need chemotherapy and he though that I wouldn’t. The oncologist wanted to do chemo straight away but we requested time to regain strength and to see if it in fact would grow back.

Within only 3 months the cancer had started to grow again. So began the journey of more tests and the start of 4 courses of chemotherapy to hopefully see this thing disappear! We were reassured that this was the most treatable cancer with the drugs they planned to use. Coupled with my positive attitude, we were going to beat this thing. I experienced most of the side effects of chemo and also side effects from the anti-nausea drugs. After 12 weeks of intensive treatment, I had more scans. By this time, we were expecting good news!

My family was present for the consultation with the oncologist at which time we would hear the success of the chemo treatment. Unfortunately, the chemo was unsuccessful and now the doctors were worried! They began to propose a list of other more drastic avenues for us to try, all of which seemed like guess-work without any guarantees.

By this stage, we’d had enough. We stepped back from the medical system and took time to recover, as well as seek out alternative options (if there were any). During this time many people were suggesting apricot kernels as part of a treatment program for cancer (we had never heard of this before). We began researching this area through books and journal articles on the Internet and found many testimonies of people who had used kernels and other nutritional products with success.

We changed our diet to eat mainly alkaline foods instead of acidic, gave the apricot kernels a go and got stuck into the vegetable juices. We also heard that flaxseed oil blended with cottage cheese had many benefits so we had that  every day too.

I stuck to this diet for 3 months and was feeling quite excited to have my next lot of scans, if we couldn’t see any changes I still had the medical system to fall back on. I had my scans and eagerly awaited the following appointment for results with the oncologist.

When he told us the growth in my chest had shrunk to a third of its size, we were stoked. He was now happy to monitor our progress.

I was feeling well but felt it would be beneficial to get in contact with a nutritionist to see if I was on the right track. She told me that for the past 3 years most of her patients had been diagnosed with cancer and she had had great success with natural alternatives.

I was interested in the products she used with her patients but first she did some tests to see where my body was at. She discovered that my liver and kidneys were not functioning well (due to chemo) and I had radiation present in my system (due to the equivalent of 5000 x-rays worth of scans). There were also pre-malignant cells present in my body.

She told me my dietary plan was perfect and without sticking to it, I could have been in real trouble. Although the kernels were effective at reducing my tumour, my entire system needed support. It was suggested to us that we investigate glyconutrients to help with cell function.

Now my complete health protocol has supported my system so much that I have a clean bill of health and feel fantastic.

I am so thankful for the journey we have been on, although it has been hard. It has taught me to appreciate life and to share my experiences with others. God has never left us, yet he has led our steps at every stage of the journey. I thank him for guiding us to all our lifestyle changes and a healthier way of living.

Thankyou for taking the time to read this testimony and to invest in your health and the lives of the ones you love.

God bless,

Brad and Kathryn
